Arch Sculpting Tools:
The Purfling serves both Protective and Decorative Purposes. Purfling is made of Black &
White strips of wood that are laminated together. Usually the Black portions of the purfling
have been dyed or stained, yet some purfling incorporates ebony. Purfling can be made
from various woods or fibers i.e. Maple, Ebony, Acacia, Pearwood, and so much more...  it
is Inlaid into the resonating top and back plates of the instrument and Mitres are joined at
the corners.  
A channel is gouged along the Purfling.
The Channel is then blended into the Curvature of the
instruments overall Arching
Bending Iron:
Used in Heat/Steam bending of the     
Ribs(Sides), Rib Linings, and Purfling  
    
 
Clamping & Gluing Rib Linings: Rib Linings
reinforce the Sides of your instrument and
serve as additional Surface for attachment of
the top and back
